Technē
Explorations in Tech, Philosophy & Design. Published in rough draft form.
There is a scene in the Prisoner of Azkaban where Harry and Hermione use a time turner to travel back in time. Harry and Hermione arrive to see the past version of Harry & Sirius being attacked by hundreds of dementors. Future Harry is watching his past self almost die from a dementors kiss and keeps telling Hermione that he remembers seeing his Dad, which he knows to be dead, be the one to perform the patronus charm to repel all the dementors to save past Sirius and Harry.
He keeps waiting and waiting for his Dad to appear, but realizes that no one is coming to save him. In that moment he realizes he is going to have to perform the patronus himself to save his past self.
I’ve had a similar experience to this scene. For a long time I’ve been waiting to see someone in the world expressing a certain set of ideas, and at a certain point I realized that no one is coming to do that. That if I want those ideas to exist in the world I’m going to have to write about and express them myself. They may actually be unique to my own mind, but I’ll have to write about them to find that out.
They may or may not be valuable to others, but Technē is my attempt to make sense of some of those ideas. There are no particular constraints for the subject material, even though I do find myself thinking about technology, philosophy and design a lot. These musings will follow where ever my curiosity flows, and be published at completely spontaneous rates.
I’m too busy with other projects unfortunately to be writing final drafts all buttoned up and edited nicely. All my posts will be drafts, but hopefully I’ll get some percentage of a point across!
If you find yourself curious, feel free to subscribe. A paid subscription helps me put more effort into Technē. Your support means I can keep following curiosity wherever it leads, without worrying about algorithms or engagement metrics.
If you want my thoughts on a subject, message me and I may write about it if I find it interesting!
